Tezeta pans

Tezeta (ትዝታ) can roughly be translated as “nostalgia”, and it’s also an Ethiopian musical scale that conveys this feeling.

The artworks in these series all express a haunting state of longing. They are made out of traditional metal pans used to roast coffee beans.

Addisu Asphalt - The new road

2024

How long does it take for a place you called home to turn into a distant memory ? The people, the trees, the cars, the light, the smells and noises that filled your days, how long till they become all enmeshed in a couple ready-made sentences you throw at people when they ask "how was your life there?" How long can the texture of your daily life retain its raw edges until it starts eroding into a linear timeline?”
